AFL Round 17 Wrap
Oh when the Saints! Go Marching In! Oh When The Saints Go Marching In!
The Saints are quickly becoming a TipBetPro favourite as for the third time this season we backed them in as an underdog winner (Collingwood and Melbourne twice) and for the third time they didn't let us down to make the Saints clearly our best performing AFL side this season.
It was a timely return to form for the AFL arm of TipBetPro (particularly timely given NRL has had a rare off week) with some great results both from a tipping and betting perspective this week.
It all started Thursday night where we had the Hawks winning a thriller and were spot on as CYRIL(!!!!!!!) kicked a remarkable match-winning goal to give TipBetPro the underdog tip and bet to start the round. We gave Freo a huge shout on the Friday of upsetting the Cats and the Dockers did the right thing by bursting out of the blocks to ensure money back by leading at quarter time. Unfortunately Freo couldn't hold on as the Cats over-ran Freo in the 2nd half but given the generous odds and the money back result we weren't too disappointed.
Saturday was a quiet day with the Tigers, Crows and Dogs all winning to complete the first 3 legs of our ever popular multi. Our only incorrect tip for the week came as Port upset the Roos and it would be fair to say we were a little frustrated at TBP HQ as we had the Power as value but their 34% probability of victory only just missed our minimum cut-off of 35% for a bet recommendation.
And so to Sunday where the Eagles and Giants did what they had to for a relatively easy, albeit modestly paying ($1.81), multi win. The big result though was at Etihad where TipBetPro favourites St Kilda made it 3 from 3 in bet recommendations this season with a crushing victory of Melbourne.
So our good round of betting was once again reflected with our average errors and our rule of thumb of "better than 30 points should yield profits" is best reflected by the fact that our two bad rounds over the past couple of months has been the Round 12 debacle (47 point error margin) and Round 16 (33 point error).
Profits for the year return to +6% which whilst still under-performing previous seasons at least gives us a little breathing space over the dreaded "negative returns" scenario.
Bring on Round 18!
